kostry

This is a portfolio site for Krzysztof OStrowski, showing his comic creations videos and other projects. The main navigation of the site is based around the video of hi, you need to punch him to navigate through the menu options. The mix of video, sound and interaction is kind of interesting, have a gander and see what you think.

Hey,
Paddy you seem to love your different web sites. I do wonder however if these sites really show off the potential the guy has, or are they just a gimmick.
Whats wrong with a nice simple to navigate site, a nice list on the left so as you know where you have been and where you need to go.
I think a portfolio site needs to either show off the work or be an advert.
The portfolio you take to an interview isn't disguised as a Bord game, or a yellow cat, its just simple and clear..
Its just because we are trying to work on our site again and i'm torn between something interesting that gets them to contact you (some kind of ad/promotion), or a site that simply shows off the work, and does what you do in an interview, but online. Maybe both, but i think there must be a definite distinction. Maybe an intro that's a fun game or video or summit, which you can skip, then a simple click though portfolio.

You have a point about the function of the site over form. You need to strike a balance between the two, you can't go too far either way. If the site is purely functional giving the work centre stage, it misses the opportunity to set the tone or feeling for what the user is about to see. I suppose a good analogy for a portfolio website is a shop where the products can be seen as the work, you want the shopper (or user) to buy products (or buy into your work) but you also what to create the right sort of experience for them to compliment the work and give them confidence in you.

It's all about balance, and this is a difficult thing to get right. I can't recall a site that gets it absolutely perfect, but there are some that come close. I'm not saying this post is one, but there are some things to take from this one.

Hey Paddy,
this is an idea we are playing with for our site, Just at test stage at the mo so all the links dont work.
I think this keeps it clean and easy to naviagte, and gives us the whole page to work with on each project. The layouts of the work at the moment arn't perfect i know, but as i said just playing, havent seen a site that works like this yet...

Hi boys!!! what can I say...... I had a look at your site and in principle I agree with what you are trying to do, however I'm a bit concerned with the layout of things. First of all the picture of you two on the left hand side should in my opinion remain there and maybe change accordingly to the kind of information you are displaying. As you say the links don't fully work however when you manage to load up the pages all the work and info are to close to the left leaving a big gap on the right. By retaining the photo of you two on the left you can then manage to centre all the work on the page making the site look more appealing. good attempt but you need a lot more work. We can discuss it better when you are up in Leeds. good idea though, maybe a bit too plain.

Well i thought the website was pretty easy to navigate. I really like the way that the website has more to offer and is more interactive than usual.

I also found the music videos to be a great mix of animation and film, the colours and atmospheres created definitly allowed me to become more involved in the videos.

I enjoyed beating this guy senseless.

I find the tone of voice to be quite sinister though, the distortion, the electric fuzz noises, the jittery way he moves and the imposition of his skeleton reminds me of something out of The Grudge or The Ring type films, but not that scary. But then there is a lot of disturbing and surreal imagery used in his work so it's not completely just a gimmick in my opinion. Over all a nice website that impresses me.
