This is an interesting concept piece, it's a weather controlled dynamic video. Apparently when you go to the site it logs your location, checks the weather there and using this information the video will change in some manner.
By the way you need a pretty decent machine to view it properly otherwise it will stutter a lot.

This is an incredibly individual and dynamic piece of work that has demonstrated how creative thinking can challenge and push the boundaries of digital design. I found the concept of the video responding to the individual's location, time and weather both intriguing and very personal, your attention becomes much more involved whilst watching the video.
Visually I found the execution strong - the graphics suited the song itself whilst the animations and lyrics were complimentary. The metamorphosis of the shapes from one to another through animation and the use of b/w photography with illustrative details created was I felt was a particularly striking and inspiring visual experience. A lovely piece of work and a demonstration of what can be acheieved.
It's a clever and intersting concept and I think it demonstrates where digital design can take us in the future. In a world where the digitaö campaigns reach a wider audience, it's difficult for the desginer to hit the target group effectively. To logg the visitors location in the world is clever and I can see it being used for many commercial purposes. The questions is if people might find it TOO personal and get turned off by the fact that they feel 'watched' and spyed upon?
As a sidenote I would like to mention that the dynamic video missed my location with 100 kilometers, and I'm not in any rural part of Sweden.
Still, a great acheivment and the visual/ sound is top class.
This is a really interesting piece of digital design. It is constantly changing therefore engaging the viewer. I love this style of organic design and I think the music compliments this design. I think it is a good example of how appropriate music completes a piece of design. I muted part of the clip and it did not have the same impact as when the music was playing alongside the motion design.
For some reason it said I was in Germany so not sure what happened there?!....
a pretty interesting when it said locating i wondered how accurate it was going to be and how freaked out i would get but i too was located about 100 miles from where i am, leicester to london, but still a novel setup. Its interesting to look up the making of the video how it relies on four 'modules', shows how simply a design can be made and changed. Would also be interesting to see what te effect weather really has,im sure it will rain soon enough for me to put the video to the test (if i remember).
A nice original piece. It reminds me of those billboards that personalise advertising messages as you drive by. Design tailored more spcifically than just social groups and target audices could be a way forward for the future. But aside from that all the elements of the piece were complimentary especially the fluid metamorphosis of the illustration and there is much more scope for variety through location or time for example as well as weather, and there are probably many more. It just happens that weather information is readily available on the internet as is server/ip information. But altogether a nice piece.
An intriguing, expressive piece of design. When I tried it, it used the standard place, Germany because it couldn't locate me... unfortunately! It's clever how the design and flow of the work is affected by the weather. Unique in how design and environment interact. I'd like to know how many photos are in the database and how it chooses which photos to juxtapose against the illustration.
This is an interesting concept as most people have pointed out and I feel it has a lot of scope for future development. That said, I was not blown away by the video.
As other people have found, it seems to have a standard location for people in England and assumes you live in London, even though you may live 150 miles away. The site states that 'every little change in your environment ensures that you will never see the same video twice'. I decided to watch it twice and it looked pretty similar to me. That said, in a months time it should be completely different. Maybe the song will be too? How many times are people going to visit this site to listen to the same song with a visual that has negligible differences to the one they saw previously?
Using the small changes in climate to produce a different effect each time is a novel idea, however, I was not particularly impressed that it based these differences on something I had no evidence for ie. the climate in London.
On a more positive note, with a more accurate forecast for your actual location, this concept would be far more intriguing as you would only need to look out the window to view the mood induced by the weather on the screen. For an online interactive video that streams directly to your screen, the graphics are impressive and, as Sarah has poined out, complement the song nicely.
For those of you who are impressed by the technique of combining photography with illustration, check out the New York based agency, Vault49, mentioned in my post on the Hed Kandi artwork. You can view their extensive online portfolio at www.vault49.com.
The tune is nice hey..
Could be an interesting direction for music videos if the changes where more specific.
I'm sure I watched it when it was raining real bad and it wasn't that different, its bright sun shine out side now.
Not too keen on the actual design of the animation, vector heaven, old B&W photos, and growing plants, all a bit "done".
I'd like it if maybe they where characters working, interacting differently according to the weather, mood, news etc.
Could be a nice way to keep communication in the right mood, tone of voice, "whatever the weather".
P.S check out the cool animation thing we just found on our blog, more hands on.
Although it placed me in Leicestershire rather than Leeds I thoroughly enjoyed this. I'm a big fan of the transforming and evolving plant shapes constantly moving to match the rhythm of the music, mixed with the sepia images and the tone of voice of the piece of music it really creates a relaxed nostalgic atmosphere.
If you wanna see a website that doesn't just look out the window and see what the weathers like, but actually changes slowly changes it (yes, really) check out this post .
Black Google
I must be honest I hadnt bothered to look at this video until now as I really wasnt drawn in by the screen shot on the graphic glog. However today I decided to take a look and am very glad I did. An incredibly touching piece of work, and almost mesmerising in its style. The gentle soundtrack along with the soothing visuals make for an extremely moving video.
The old black and white photos give it a very personal feel. The animated shapes morphing into plants give the video a very energetic and organic feel while at the same time creating stunning borders for the photos. This just shows what can be done and the talent of the producers is aspirational in itself.
Call me a sceptic but I didn't believe that this was actually working, so I put it to the test. My boyfriend who is currently in northern Florida, played the video at exactly the same time as I did and we then took screen shots of what we were presented with. Turns out it does seem appropriate to the weather, and it certainly was very different. (His was better because there was a tropical storm going on where he was).
An interesting piece, but I am not sure that this technology is used to its optimum here. It would be nice to see what else we could use this for.
The video wasn't that far out on locating me, about 15miles out. I thought purely as a video the piece worked really well, it created a nostalgic atmosphere, the imagery, colours and movement of the animated flowers all create a great sense of cohesion. The video successfully represented the pace and the relaxed tempo of the song.
It would be interesting to see how different weather conditions would effect the video, although judging by other poeple comments it doesnt seem to change much.
I thought this was a very original piece of work when I saw it. There is room for improvement in terms of placing location etc but its a promising concept, indicating possible direction of future work.
